WEST PATERSON MORRIS CANAL HIKE,                   SAT, Nov. 4th, 10 AM,

WEST PATERSON LIBRARY

Come join the fun as we resume the CSNJ Morris Canal hikes. Long-timers and
newbies are welcome. Ron Rice, map archivist, will lead the tours, honoring
our leader of
ten previous West Paterson hikes, the famous tiller shark, Frank Mentone.
Ron states, "I wanted to volunteer and help the CSNJ, and I thought this
would be a great way to generate some new members and interest in my
neighborhood canal sites. Frank's tours were always well-attended; the last
one was held in 1999 (see photo), so I'm sure a lot of folks will want to
see the new developments along our ol' MC. I recommend that others find ways
to help the CSNJ by volunteering some of their time to help preserve the
towpath canals of NJ.  Frank promises to bring a few of his new jokes to start the festivities!”
The West Paterson - Totowa/Wayne border tour will be
four hours (and about
four miles)  of easy walking, with only a few slight climbs up hills. Bring
water and lunch. Only a downpour will cancel the hike
.

Sites: Many stretches of intact prism and towpath, road and aqueducts' abutments, 70-foot drops
from canal to Passaic River valley, MC historical parks & walkways, mill
pond, dam, falls & carpet mill, cornerstone brownstones from Little Falls
aqueduct, and water pipelines in bed of canal.

Meet at 10 a.m. at W. Paterson Library parking

lot on Brophy Lane, off McBride Avenue.

Please call Mark Hamill (see below) to register.

Tour is limited to first 50 people registering.
